Maverick Minds Matters – The People, The Work, The Moments
As we move towards the end of the year, I’ve taken time to look back at the people and organisations I’ve had the good fortune to work alongside. It’s been a year filled with diverse projects, different industries, and unique opportunities.
How Ideas Become a Book: A Panel of Different Paths
On Thursday 27 November, I’ll be part of an author panel at the IABC Queensland and Change Management Institute’s Annual Book Fair end-of-year event. It’s a practical, down-to-earth event focused on the realities of writing, creativity, and working with people through change.
Rose Bud Thorn: A Simple Way to See What’s Working, What’s Emerging and What Needs Attention
Sometimes all you need is a structure to help you see your work with clearer eyes. ‘Rose Bud Thorn’ is one of my favourite (and simple) ways to help people visualise what’s working, what’s challenging, and what’s emerging next.
It’s a Wrap: Your Highlight Reel – The Director’s Cut
Before the year races to the finish line, here’s a chance to pause, rewind and notice the scenes you may have rushed past – the ones that shaped your year in ways you didn’t realise.
Cool Bananas – What Happens When Strategy Gets Visual
Recently, I spent time with other business owners at The Experience, the Basic Bananas business retreat, running two Maverick Minds sessions. At first, like most conferences, we were just a room full of strangers. But once people got up, moved around, and began sharing stories, everything shifted.
Working with my Shift Your Thinking digital cards, the conversations went deeper. Clarity sharpened. Insights surfaced.
One participant, Sarah Joyce from Mariner Boating Holidays, later recorded a short reflection about what clicked for her in the session.
The Creativity Key – Diaphanous Conversations
Some ideas arrive fully formed and ready to go. Others hover for a while; you can feel them, sense them, but you can’t quite pin down the detail. It’s a sort of pre-verbal knowing when an idea has already taken shape inside you, but it hasn’t yet found its voice.
It’s also like seeing something through a soft curtain. The essence is there, even if the edges are still coming into focus. I’ve started thinking of these moments between people as Diaphanous Conversations, and they’re worth paying attention to.
When an Image Says What Words Can’t
There are moments when an idea feels strong and solid in our minds, but as soon as we try to explain it, suddenly it becomes foggy, awkward, or impossible to grasp. The meaning gets stuck somewhere between our thinking and someone else’s understanding. Recently, I was reminded how a simple image can make a complicated idea easier to understand for ourselves and for others.
It’s a Wrap – The Director’s Cut – Your Highlight Reel
Before the end-of-year rush takes over, join us online on December 11 at 5 pm AEDT and take a moment for yourself to reflect on the story this year has become. We’re going to edit and discover meaning in the moments that mattered most.
Team Superpowers – The Marvel of the Space Between
What does it take for a team to move from simply working together to creating something remarkable? Helen Zink and I are curious about this, too, and it’s led us to explore how it happens.
The Creativity Key – Now and Future
Last month, we kicked off a new experiment – The Creativity Key – with the aim of bringing a short prompt designed to unlock fresh perspectives and spark creative momentum. Think of it as a playful nudge to see things differently, try something new, or bring a bit more imagination into your work.
Imagining the Future – The Innovation Playground
How do you move your business from where it is to where you’d like it to be?
The steps between imagination and action come to life in the Innovation Playground – a creative workshop where participants use Maverick Minds Shift Your Thinking communication cards as catalysts to explore their businesses.
When Good Intentions Go Too Far – Lessons from the Garden
I almost killed one of my cycads recently, not from neglect, but from too much care.
You could say I overly managed the poor thing.
These ancient palm-like plants have been around since the Jurassic period and were a favourite snack for dinosaurs. We inherited a few when we moved into our home, and mostly they’ve continued to exist quietly, minding their own business.
At various stages, some have been active. Most recently, one began to push out new green shoots. I was delighted and also on alert. From experience, I knew that what often follows is the arrival of the Cycad Moths, who love to devour the soft green leaves.
Ready to shift your thinking and make the next move?
Our unique digital facilitation and coaching cards can help with that.
