Improve employee wellbeing.

When whiteboards don’t work

Change and transition is not always easy. In business, you need maximum employee engagement and buy-in to get different results over the long-term.

True engagement rarely comes from someone standing at the front of the room, talking at you about theories, processes, and complicated data. Changing mindsets comes from engaging hearts and minds.

Creative and Systemic Coaching

Coaching encourages people to use their imagination, engage their natural curiosity, see existing problems in a new light, experiment and test ideas, and apply interdisciplinary approaches to pursue new ideas and harness their strengths.

“Inertia Connect is all about bringing our team together, away from the office, discussing our organisation, our future and the plans that we have in place for Inertia and our Inertians. From making music in an orchestral ensemble to having thinking challenged, our team took on the day with enthusiasm, humour and curiosity. I’d like to acknowledge facilitator Dr Cathryn Lloyd of Maverick Minds for creating an environment where we could get the very best out of ourselves and each other.”

How does coaching work?

Coaching offers you the opportunity to increase self-awareness, focus on your strengths, and improve your relationships, decision-making, and quality of life.

It’s a holistic and human practice.

Participants are invited to break from their busy worlds and put other areas of their thinking and being to work – their creative and human qualities – to break habitual thinking and create room for new possibilities, insights and action.

Our programs – Team Coaching, Coaching for Artists & Creatives, and Individual Coaching – equip people with ideas, methods, strategies, and techniques to help design a more meaningful and fruitful future.

In essence, we help people think a different way and to create positive, meaningful, and sustainable change in their businesses, and their lives.

My popular Artful Inquiry methodology includes the use of arts-based and aesthetic ways of working such as drawing, painting, making, digital facilitation cards, and other such creative methods to bring people out of their patterns of thinking and invite them into a creative mindset.

Our work is tailored to each individual client. We collaborate with our clients, and are guided by the path or direction you’d like to take. We’re there to prompt, facilitate and guide you on your new way. Together we co-create a way forward.

Coaching sessions can be delivered as consecutive whole days, a series of full or half-days over a few months, or in shorter bursts. We can collaborate in a neutral space, or I can come to your site for some creative in-residence workshops. Whatever best suits you and your availability.

FAQs

What's an artistic coach?

Artistic coaches work with leaders, managers, teams, and individuals to develop creative confidence, capability, and wellbeing. We work with our ‘Artful Inquiry’ methodology, such as drawing, painting, designing, making and creating – anything that ignites creative thinking – to help give people a new perspective and enhance new ways of thinking and being.

How do you coach creativity?

I use my methodology ‘Artful Inquiry’, and skills and experience as a Creativity Coach, to help individuals and teams explore ideas imaginatively and strategically through a range of innovation, inventive, resourceful, reflective, and aesthetic processes. It helps build confidence, collaboration, innovation and wellbeing within oneself, and in the workplace.

Is coaching an art or a science?

Coaching can be both an art and a science. My ‘Artful Inquiry’ methodology takes an arts-based approach. Yet I’ve undertaken research and collected data through my Doctorate and thesis to support my methodology. While coaching can often feel cathartic Maverick Minds coaching services should not be treated as therapy, counselling, or training.

What is the coaching process for individuals?

Regarding coaching for individuals, I firstly seek to understand the person with whom I am working, to see if we are a good fit. I often start with an initial Discovery session. This helps us determine a way forward. As a creativity coach I may also draw on artistic theories, concepts, and experiential learning, enabling you to dive deep into what it means to live and work well. This includes the use of drawing, painting, making, digital facilitation cards, and other such creative approaches to bring people out of their habitual thinking and into possibility thinking. Coaching is tailored to my clients and is flexible. Sessions can be delivered as consecutive whole days, a series of full or half-days, or hourly sessions. It can happen in person or virtually. We can collaborate in a neutral space, or I can come to your site for some creative in-residence workshops. Whatever best suits you and your availability.

Why is team coaching important?

Team coaching helps people focus on what’s important regarding their personal and professional interactions, communication, and actions. Through team coaching, you can:

  • Discover what is truly important and uncover what is possible.
  • Shift your thinking and gain new perspectives.
  • Appreciate and recognise every person’s contribution and importance.
  • Identify opportunities through colleagues and develop a creative mindset.
  • Identify challenges and work realistically to resolve them.
  • Gain greater confidence in problem solving and decision-making.
  • Bring about positive change for all people, the workplace, and the business.
  • Develop a deeper appreciation of team dynamics.
  • Adopt and develop a creative systems thinking mindset.

What is the difference between team coaching and facilitation?

Team coaching and facilitation both seek to deliver positive outcomes for business improvement and/or self-improvement. Both provide a space for learning and reflection. Facilitation can be more directed and designed with more involvement from the facilitator. Coaching is less directive giving space for the individual or team to instigate the direction and flow of the coaching engagement, and to work things out for themselves. Think of it as a sliding scale, depending on the situation, a more facilitated engagement may be required, or a more self-directed approach is beneficial. It comes down to what you as our client requires, and the best way to get to where you need to go.

Got a creative background?

As an artist and creator, the passion for your practice is certainly there. But are you stuck, and getting the same unwanted results day after day? You may be asking, where to next? Perhaps it’s time to try a different kind of creative lens.
