An A–Z of creative nudges from my book Seriously Playful Creativity.
D is for Disruption
Being a creature of habit can be wonderfully efficient. But it can also narrow our perspective.
The more familiar our routines, conversations, information sources, and ways of thinking become, the easier it is to stop noticing. We become comfortable, predictable, and a little complacent.
Disruption doesn’t always have to be a major event. Sometimes it begins with a small decision to do one thing differently.
This Month’s Creative Invitation
This exercise comes from my book, Seriously Playful Creativity. Choose one thing this week that sits outside your normal routine:
- Read something you wouldn’t normally read.
- Listen to music outside your usual playlist.
- Visit a gallery.
- Explore your local area as if you were seeing it for the first time.
- Have a conversation with someone whose experiences or views differ from your own.
Notice what catches your attention. Notice what surprises you. Notice what new ideas emerge.
What’s one thing you can do differently that would shift your thinking?
You can find more prompts like this in my book, Seriously Playful Creativity.
Next month, we explore E for Energy.
