In another joyful collaboration with Leonie Cutts from CCS Corporation, we recently hosted our It’s a Wrap end of year reflection with two online sessions using Maverick Minds Shift Your Thinking digital facilitation cards.
Each session was about pausing, reflecting and reminding ourselves of all the moments – big and small – that shaped our year. Understanding that it’s easy to let small successes and meaningful moments fade into the background, Leonie and I guided participants through a process inviting them to be in the here and now and revisit the year that’s been.
One participant perfectly captured the spirit of the session: “This time has allowed me to see not only the challenges from my year but also the good things that happened—and there were a lot of good things when I look back.”
Playing with Creativity
We used images from the Maverick Minds Shift Your Thinking digital cards to give participants a fresh language for exploring their experiences and their meanings. These cards allow people to tap into another way of being and thinking, sparking stories, metaphors, symbolism, and creative responses. Our curious participants expressed positive responses to working with them.
The Strength of Shared Reflection
Reflection is powerful, and sharing our experiences with others takes it to another level. Facilitated sessions like ‘It’s a Wrap!’ enable participants to relax and immerse themselves in a supportive group environment, allowing them to concentrate on the insights that arise from their own reflections. It’s a refreshing way to experience reflection, often leading to more profound discoveries.
It was wonderful to hear people uncovering forgotten achievements and sharing moments of satisfaction and gratitude even during what for many has thrown up different challenges. This kind of intentional pause is something we rarely give ourselves in the usual rush to move forward, and it was a reminder of how valuable shared reflection can be. This was certainly reflected in this comment “I ask my clients to take time to reflect but how often do I do this for myself. It’s wonderful having someone else hold the space and not always me”.
The session brought a sense of connection. People found common ground, which sparked new perspectives. The mix of shared and individual insights created a nonjudgmental and affirming space.
Making Time for What Matters
An interesting realisation often emerges when people allow themselves quality reflective time. During this process, they frequently wish for more time – as noted by some of our participants. The opportunity to step back, even briefly, can be transformative. It allows us to appreciate what we’ve achieved, understand where and even who we are, and to imagine what might come next.
As we wrapped up the session, you could feel the shift in energy – everyone left with a sense of completion and readiness for the year ahead.
For many, the session was a chance to reset and prepare for the future. One participant said, “It’s such a positive way to think about my year and now I feel I’m ready to do my 2025 thinking.”
Looking Ahead to 2025
We’ve planned more reflection opportunities for next year. Mid-year sessions, with potential names like ‘The Middle of Things’ or ‘The Messy Middle,’ are in the works. These will offer a chance to pause and take stock halfway through the year.
And It’s a Wrap will return.
Based on feedback we will make the sessions 60 minute sessions rather than 45 minutes.
