An A–Z of creative nudges from my book Seriously Playful Creativity.
A is for Attitude
Attitude shapes situations more than we often realise.
It influences how we walk into meetings, respond to challenges, approach new ideas, and decide what feels possible before we’ve even begun.
In teams, attitude travels quickly. Curiosity can open a conversation. Certainty can close it. Energy invites participation, while reluctance dampens it.
The same is true of creativity. Many people carry long-held beliefs about whether they are creative, and whether creativity has a place in their work at all. These attitudes quietly shape what we notice, what we try, and what becomes possible.
Creative Prompt
Using the concept above, imagine your current project, conversation, or challenge has an attitude. What attitude is it expressing right now?
- Is it curious?
- Defensive?
- Playful?
- Overly serious?
- Tired?
- Excited?
Now imagine a shift in that attitude.
What would change if the work approached the next step with curiosity instead of certainty? Or experimentation instead of caution? How might that impact or benefit the project?
If this style of thinking resonates, you might be interested to read a book I wrote called Seriously Playful Creativity, where these A–Z prompts first appeared.
