Shift Your Thinking
How often do you pause to reflect on your own thinking?
Being interviewed by someone who asks great questions is an excellent way to do this. I’m delighted to share a conversation I had with Michelle Ockers from Learning Uncut for her Elevate podcast, during which we created a space for deep exploration of how and why we can shift our thinking and work differently.
As leaders, facilitators, coaches and in this case specifically learning and development professionals, we have a unique opportunity to help others navigate change effectively. During my conversation with Michelle, we explored this critical role and how creative approaches can make a difference.
I shared a powerful example of working with a leadership team who wanted to explore their identity in a fresh way. Using the Maverick Minds image cards, they approached their leadership development from a different angle. What made this method powerful was its ability to transcend the usual constraints of business language. Each team member’s interpretation of the images contributed to a richer, more nuanced understanding of their collective identity. There was no “right” or “wrong” way to interpret the images – only authentic expressions of personal and shared experiences.
Michelle and I agreed our role isn’t just to deliver information – it’s to help people shift their thinking in ways that bring about positive change for themselves, their teams, and organisations.
